Description
The Phanteks EX5 is an ATX mid-tower built around a compartmentalised chamber design that isolates the motherboard, graphics card, power supply and CPU cooling into separate thermal zones. Each area receives its own fresh air rather than recirculating warm air from neighbouring components, which improves temperatures while needing fewer fans. A pre-installed rear mainboard fan is included, leaving you free to pair the chassis with your preferred 360mm AIO.
Compartmentalised Chamber Cooling
The EX5 abandons the dual-glass fish-tank layout that has dominated case design and instead separates the motherboard, graphics card, power supply and CPU cooling into distinct compartments. Each zone draws its own fresh air rather than sharing one volume of increasingly warm air, so the graphics card is not breathing what the processor has already heated. The practical consequence is that fewer fans are needed to reach a given temperature, because the airflow that exists is directed rather than stirred. A pre-installed rear mainboard fan blows directly across the VRM and memory, an area that receives almost no airflow in a conventional case.
A Foundation for Your Own Build
The base EX5 ships with the rear mainboard fan pre-installed and leaves the CPU cooling choice to you, with dedicated 360mm radiator support in the cooling compartment. That suits builders who already own an AIO, or who want to specify a particular cooler rather than accept a bundled one. The same chamber architecture and airflow behaviour apply across all three models, so the cooling design is not compromised by choosing the base version.
Hardware Support and Anti-Sag
Graphics cards up to 358mm long are supported, with GPU thickness depending on where your motherboard places its primary PCIe slot: up to 4.6 slots on Slot 1 layouts, 3.6 slots on standard ATX and 2.6 slots on lower-placement boards. Server-style anti-sag brackets anchor heavy cards directly to the steel frame rather than leaving the PCIe slot to carry the weight. Power supplies up to 210mm fit, and the case takes ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX boards across four expansion slots plus two combo slots for 2.5-inch drives.
Connectivity, Lighting and Finish
Front I/O covers two USB 3.0 ports and a high-speed USB Type-C at 20Gbps. Integrated ARGB lighting runs around the chassis and can be synchronised through a compatible motherboard or through Phanteks' NEXLINQ ecosystem. Tempered glass panels give an uninterrupted view of the motherboard, VRM zone and graphics card, while 40mm of cable clearance behind the tray plus velcro ties and routing channels make a tidy build straightforward. External dimensions are 449 x 234 x 474mm.
